Sundance 2010
I recently returned from The 2010 Sundance film festival. I go every year with a few girlfriends. It is one my of favorite weeks of the year. We wake up early, stay out late, eat great food and see as many films as possible.
If you love film or even just love learning or thinking, I highly recommend making the trek to Park City.
The goal of the festival is to widen the conversation on humanity. These films concentrate on the idea that every life has a story, every story has a lesson, and every lesson has the power to change the world.
Every year I seem to learn something about the world around me and myself.
This year I learned that….
· We are a prism of selves, slightly different in each changing situation, like reflections of light on a multi-dimensional surface.
· Gossip is really never about the person we are gossiping about. It is a tool we use to relate to one another by projecting our values onto a third party person.
· Our obsession of celebrities stems from a survival mechanism engrained in us long ago; observing and imitating those of power.
· As humans we are erratic and contradictory, but to evolve it is important to be able to hold contradictory thoughts in our head at the same time.
· It is good to have questions that do not have answers.
· Our education system is a mess and we are in trouble if we plan to continue having an economy based on innovation.
